The trail start at the last human settlement as the trail opens to scrubland and forest,with several opportunities for views over the north west of Mahe, towards Silhouette and North Island and even the east towards Ste Anne marine Park.

The path through the valley is relatively levelled,with more gentle inclines.The Mare Cochon valley was once a thriving agriculture area with fruit trees such as mangoes oranges etc.The fresh water marsh or swamp is at the eastern end of the valley with a path encircling it.
